RHL’s home base of Trinidad and Tobago is the leading Caribbean producer of oil and gas. The twin-island republic has earned a reputation as an excellent investment site for international businesses and its economy benefits from low inflation and a growing trade surplus. Prospects for growth are good as prices for oil, petrochemicals, and liquified natural gas are expected to remain high, and foreign direct investment continues to grow to support expanded capacity in the energy sector.
It is against this backdrop of opportunity in the Energy sector that Aerogas was born.
RHL is a joint venture partner in Aerogas Processors Ltd. In 1998 Aerogas opened a processing facility to produce ozone friendly aerosol propellants. APL's plant produces industry standard
commercial and cosmetic grade hydrocarbon propellants for use in the Aerosol Filling Industry; deodorized butane for blowing polystyrene foam; and LPG fuel. The existence of an established and expanding natural gas based petrochemical industrial sector in Trinidad & Tobago ensures a ready supply of feedstock and makes an ideal location for this enterprise. APL procures its feedstock – propane and butane – from Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited (PPGPL), the sole processor of high quality liquid petroleum gases, in Trinidad and Tobago. APL and PPGPL have entered into a fifteen (15) year supply contract.
APL’s plant is located at North Sea Drive, Point Lisas Industrial ate, on a 14,181 m2 site. The plant is located in close proximity to the Point Lisas port. The site is large enough to accommodate foreseeable future expansion. The plant has an initial design production capacity of 5,000,000 gallons per year of blended hydrocarbon aerosol propellant. The layout and other considerations necessary to increase to supply to 10,000,000 gallons per year have already been factored into the current plant. The facilities will also allow for bulk loading of product.
APL produces different blends of high quality aerosol propellants and LPG fuel. State of the art blending equipment is used to provide the vapour pressures of the propellants required for personal care, household, automotive, industrial and agricultural aerosol spray products. All our products are environmentally friendly.
Propane and butane are supplied to APL via pipeline from PPGPL. They are then stored, cleaned, blended and discharged into IMO5 Type ISO-tanks – each with a capacity of 6,000 gallons (22,710 L) – for shipment to our export customers. Local aerosol fillers are supplied by road tank wagon. The Gas is purchased by customers in Trinidad, Guatemala, Anguilla, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Columbia and the Commonwealth of Dominica, who use it as a key component in the aerosol manufacturing process.
On-site laboratory personnel monitor both the process and product deliverable quality. Samples are taken at various points throughout the process for gas chromatograph analysis, determinations of vapour pressure and temperature values, and moisture and sulphur concentrations.
The codes of the US National Fire and Protection Association and the American Petroleum Institute, and the UK Health and Safety guidelines were applied in the design and construction of the plant. Approvals for operation were granted following the completion of the Environmental Assessment and Risk Analysis of the facility by local and international consultants.
